If the battery indicator in your car comes on when you start the car, that is a routine system test. If the car battery indicator stays on while you are driving, then there’s probably something to check out. If you are having battery issues, you may find that your headlights aren’t as bright, the stereo may not turn on, and the power windows might be moving slower. If any of these are happening, you really need to get home or bring it to us as soon as possible because your vehicle is likely in imminent risk of being inoperable. If neither destination is available, find a safe spot to park.
Like all things automotive-related, how far you can continue to drive with the car battery light on really depends on your circumstances. If the light just came on, then you can do things like turning off all accessories such as the infotainment system or air conditioning and removing any devices that may be connected to USB slots. This can help extend the remaining battery charge, but you should still attempt to get here or return home. Keep in mind that you should NOT shut off the engine because a dying battery won’t have the power to start.
