Your car’s air-conditioning not working is caused by a bad compressor or a freon leak. While these causes might be the most obvious reasons that the air-conditioning isn’t cooling inside the vehicle, it might be something as simple as a dirty cabin filter or a bad compressor belt. No matter why or how, it’s super disappointing when ice-cold air isn’t on to battle hot weather outside. Don’t get in a panic, because our experienced auto technicians know what to spot and are ready to cool off your interior long before the first heatwave hits.
The most likely reason your air-conditioner stopped cooling is your car’s air-conditioner started leaking. Your car’s air-conditioning unit uses freon to lower the ambient air temperature and creates refreshing cold air. Anytime you want that refreshing cool air, it won’t be possible when the freon leak occurs. Another reason for your AC not blowing cold air is because the vehicle is a hybrid. The AC system is powered by the engine, your air-conditioning won’t be getting any power if your car is in EV mode and the engine isn’t running.
If the AC is on but the fan stopped working then there might be a defective AC fuse. Fuses help protect components of a car from a power surge and while it may just have to be replaced, however, if your AC fuse keeps popping then you likely have a larger issue. There’s also the possibility that the car’s air-conditioner Compressor could be suffering from a low amount of AC refrigerant or a possible leak that needs to be looked at.
If your AC starts leaking, you could easily tell by random damp spots in your car or puddles under your car when it’s parked. When your air-conditioner is pumping cold air inside your vehicle, it has to displace all of that moisture it’s used from the outdoors and flows down the evaporator drain. Another cause might be the AC Refrigerant amount being low which leads to a buildup of condensation because the evaporator coils will start to freeze. You should also have a lookout for faulty seals in the AC compartment or the AC’s air filters if the problem continues to happen.
